Grace
Some childhood betrayals arrive before there are words for them. Behind closed doors, safety was traded and silence took its place. By the time there were words for the questions, death had taken the answers.
Years later, after coming to understand addiction from the inside, forgiveness became neither permission, forgetting, nor absolution. It became grace: the choice to stop serving a sentence for someone else's choices.
Grace is what happens when the past remains part of the story but no longer gets to write the ending.
